Music of 2017
It is no surprise that the music of 2017 started with a political message. Katy Perry released Chained to the Rhythm as a direct response to the 2016 American Presidential Election.
Sigala blew me away with Came Here for Love after I discovered the artist out in the clubs in London. LJKelley released Movement. Charli XCX released Boys. Speaking of London, it was amazing to hear Baby performed by Pixie Lott in front of tens of thousands at London Stadium.
My favourites Clean Bandit teamed up with Zara Larsson to release Symphony and it certainly was a symphony to my ears. The music video is heartbreaking and if you don’t feel a tear, you may have no soul.
Offer Nissim and Ania Bukstein though made my year with a Hebrew song called Rokedet or aptly translated as Dance. Definitely my Song of the Year.
My Album of the Year was also an easy choice. Steps couldn’t have done better with the pop perfection that is Tears on the Dancefloor.
Dannii Minogue continued her release of singles without an album, still not reaching the musical success of her sister Kylie. The video of Galaxy was well executed but appeared to have more of budget than what was given the actual production of the song.
Speaking of Kylie, no you did not miss a release from the pop goddess but she did claim her 50th Top 40 UK Hit with Santa Baby. 2018 will be the year to watch as her highly anticipated album drops early in the year and will mostly like be a contender for both Album of the Year and Song of the Year.
