Kylie Minogue performs at the TD Gardens in Boston

Kylie Tension Tour

I’ll always remember the first time I saw Kylie Minogue live, it was May 4th 2005 for her Showgirl tour. I’m sure you could have called me a fan before May 4th, but the experience solidified it. Now, Kylie is touring again across Australia, Asia, North America, Europe, and South America.

Kylie Minogue is no stranger to touring and it’s been a key part of her career since 1987. In fact she has earned fans along her journey. There are those who have been fans since 1987. Then there are those like me that discovered her during her Lights Years & Fever success at the turn of the millennium, which coincided with her first Grammy award. In 2011, she received more success with Aphrodite and toured more extensively than ever before. Then in 2023, Padam Padam earned Kylie another Grammy and of course another generation of fans.

North America has always been a challenge for Kylie and her music was always more underground and relegated to fans of dance or britpop music. The exception was Can’t Get You Out of My Head in 2001. She only first toured in 2009 with a 9 dates spread over 6 cities. Then with the 2011 success of All The Lovers, she expanded her reach in North America but still appeared at mostly smaller venues.

Then another exception happened, Padam Padam became another worldwide hit for Minogue. This time she was ready and followed quickly with a tour, her first arena tour for North America. She stunned audiences as the tour started in Australia. She wowed crowds in Asia. Now she is working to wrap up her North American leg and the reviews have been so positive. The Boston Globe described her as a “monarch holding court” and “putting exclusively positive energy into the world for two hours”.

I was extremely lucky lucky lucky to see Kylie at two sold out shows at Madison Square Garden in New York City, as well as in Boston, and Atlanta. Just like in 2005, Kylie struck at my heartstrings. The thing about Kylie is that she is so humble. I think she was just as in awe that this was really happening as I was. Every moment was electrifying and the way she connected with the audience makes me believe that she has created a new generation of fans just like me. There was such a variety in attendance like the lady who had been a fan since 1987 and had a cassette tape signed in-front of everyone in Boston. There was the magical moment where Kylie sang Where The Wild Roses Grow to two kids in Atlanta.

The tour is amazing on its rights. The vocals and visuals are on point. The set list grabs from all the eras and is well put together. For me thought, this tour took things to a higher level. Kylie relishing the ability to connect with her fans. In fact, during Covid-19, she dreamt of being surrounded by her fans. Just like me, those fans will never forget it.
